Express emotions through art

In this lesson, students will create heart-themed art pieces using various materials to express emotions and messages of kindness. This activity encourages creativity and emotional expression, helping young children to articulate their feelings and understand the importance of kindness through art.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Gather students in a circle.
  • Briefly introduce the theme of the lesson: creating heart-themed art to express emotions and kindness.
  • Explain that they will use different materials to make their own heart art pieces.

Step 2

Warm-Up Discussion

5 mins

  • Ask students what emotions they know (e.g., happy, sad, excited).
  • Discuss how colors can represent different emotions (e.g., red for love, blue for calm).
  • Encourage students to think about a message of kindness they might want to share.

Step 3

Art Creation

25 mins

  • Distribute materials: construction paper, crayons, markers, glue sticks, scissors, stickers, and heart templates.
  • Instruct students to create their heart-themed art piece, using colors and designs that express their chosen emotion or message of kindness.
  • Walk around to assist and encourage students as they work.

  • Have students sit in a circle with their art pieces.
  • Invite each student to share their art and explain the emotion or message of kindness they expressed.
