Growing Kindness

Teach Kindness/Caring at Christmas

In this lesson, students will explore the concept of kindness and how small acts can have a big impact, especially around Christmas time. Through a video, discussion, and hands-on activities, students will learn to recognize and practice kindness in their daily lives. This lesson is important as it fosters empathy and caring, essential social-emotional skills for young learners.

Step 1

Introduction

Begin with a brief discussion about what kindness means.
Ask students to share examples of kind acts they have seen or done.

Step 2

Video Viewing

Show the video A Good Deed Can Grow.
Encourage students to think about how a small act of kindness can grow.

Step 3

Discussion

Discuss the video with the class.
Ask questions like: What was your favorite part? How can a good deed grow?

Step 4

Kindness Activity

15 mins

Divide students into small groups.
Provide art supplies and ask each group to create a 'Kindness Tree' where each leaf represents a kind act they can do.
Encourage creativity and collaboration.

Hand out the Kindness Reflection Worksheet.
Ask students to draw or write about a kind act they will do this week.
