Gratitude Tree Activity

Foster appreciation and positivity

In this lesson, students will create a Gratitude Tree by adding leaves with written or drawn expressions of thankfulness. This activity helps foster a sense of appreciation and positivity in the classroom, encouraging students to reflect on what they are grateful for and share it with their peers. Step 1

Introduction to Gratitude

5 minutes

  • Begin by asking students what they think gratitude means.
  • Discuss the importance of being thankful and how it can positively impact our lives and relationships.
  • Share a personal example of something you are grateful for.

Step 2

Creating the Gratitude Leaves

10 minutes

  • Distribute the Printable Gratitude Leaves Worksheet to each student.
  • Instruct students to write or draw something they are grateful for on each leaf.
  • Encourage creativity and personal reflection.

Step 3

Building the Gratitude Tree

10 minutes

  • Have students cut out their leaves and bring them to the front of the class.
  • Create a tree trunk on a bulletin board or wall using construction paper.
  • Invite students to attach their leaves to the tree, sharing what they wrote or drew if they feel comfortable.

Step 4

Reflection and Discussion

5 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle around the Gratitude Tree.
  • Facilitate a discussion about how it feels to share and see others' expressions of gratitude.
  • Encourage students to think about how they can practice gratitude in their daily lives.
