Warm-Up: Share a Shine

3 minutes

Begin the lesson with the Grade 3 Gratitude Warm-Up activity. Ask students to quickly share one small thing that made them happy or that they are thankful for today. Guide them to keep it brief and positive.

Introduction to Gratitude

4 minutes

Display the first slide of the Grade 3 Gratitude Slide Deck.
* Introduce the concept of gratitude: "Today, we're going to talk about gratitude. Gratitude means being thankful for the good things in our lives, big or small. It's like feeling warm and fuzzy inside when someone does something kind for you, or when you notice something wonderful around you."
* Ask: "What are some things you are grateful for?" (Allow a few student responses, write key ideas on the board).

Step 3

Activity: My Gratitude Jar

6 minutes

Distribute the Gratitude Jar Worksheet (Grade 3) and coloring supplies.
* Explain the activity: "We're going to create our own Gratitude Jars. On your paper, I want you to draw a big jar. Inside the jar, you'll draw or write three things you are grateful for right now. It could be your family, a pet, a favorite toy, a sunny day, or even a yummy snack!"
* Encourage students to be creative with their drawings and to think deeply about what they appreciate. Circulate and provide support as needed.

Cool-Down: One Word Wonder

2 minutes

Conclude the lesson with the Grade 3 Gratitude Cool-Down. Ask students to share one word that describes how they feel after thinking about gratitude.
