Gratitude Garden

Promote positivity and mindfulness

In this lesson, students will create a 'Gratitude Garden' on a bulletin board by posting daily or weekly notes of gratitude. Each flower in the garden represents something they are thankful for. This activity promotes positivity and mindfulness by encouraging students to reflect on the good in their lives. It helps students develop a habit of gratitude, which can improve their overall well-being and social-emotional skills.

Step 1

Introduction to Gratitude

  • Briefly explain what gratitude is and why it's important.
  • Share an example of something you are grateful for to model the activity.

Step 2

Creating Gratitude Notes

7 mins

  • Distribute the 'Gratitude Notes Worksheet' to each student.
  • Instruct students to think of one thing they are grateful for and write it on the worksheet.
  • Encourage creativity by allowing students to decorate their notes with drawings or colors.

Step 3

Building the Gratitude Garden

3 mins

  • Have students come up to the bulletin board and post their gratitude notes, forming a 'flower' in the garden.
  • Encourage students to read others' notes to see what their classmates are thankful for.

Step 4

Reflection and Sharing

2 mins

  • Ask a few students to share what they wrote and why they are grateful for it.
  • Discuss how it feels to focus on positive things and how it can change our mood.
