Goals are things we work for!
Wishes are things we hope for!
Welcome students and get them thinking about what they want to do. Explain that a goal is something you work hard to achieve, while a wish is something you hope for but don't actively work on.
Introduce the Star Goal Chart. Model how to choose a simple, achievable goal for yourself (e.g., 'I will help put away the blocks'). Demonstrate how to add a star each time you work on your goal. Emphasize that goals can be small and personal.
What is YOUR goal for today?
Draw or write it on your chart!
Guide students to think about their own one-day goal. Encourage simple, actionable goals like 'I will share my crayons' or 'I will listen quietly.' Remind them that it's their special goal for today!
Did you work towards your goal?
How do you feel?
At the end of the day, bring students back to reflect. Ask them to look at their charts and think about how they did. Introduce the reflection page.
Share your goal!
Share your stars!
We are all goal stars! ⭐
Facilitate a sharing circle. Encourage students to share their goals and how it felt to work on them. Celebrate effort, not just achievement. Reassure students that it's okay if goals are hard or not fully met; the effort is what matters.

My Goal Was:
Did you work on your goal today?
(Circle one)
Yes! Not yet.
How do you feel about your goal today?
Draw a happy face, a regular face, or a sad face.
What did you learn about setting a goal?
Teacher Script: "Now it's time to share our amazing goal journeys! Who would like to be our first Goal Star to share?"
Prompts for Students to Share:
Teacher Closing Remarks: "Thank you for sharing, everyone! Remember, setting goals and working towards them helps us grow and learn new things. Every time we try, we are being a Goal Star!"
Teacher: "Good morning, my little stars! Let's start our day by thinking about something exciting. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine something you really want to do today. Maybe it's playing with a special toy, or helping a friend, or even just sitting quietly during story time. What comes to mind?"
Teacher: (Wait for a few student responses. Acknowledge and affirm.) "Those are wonderful ideas! Now, sometimes we wish for things, like wishing for a sunny day or wishing for a yummy snack. But sometimes, we have something we want to work towards today, something we can make happen! That's called a goal!"
Teacher: "A wish is something you hope for. A goal is something you plan to do and work hard to make happen!"
(Display Goal Stars Slide Deck - Slide 1: "What Do You Want To Do Today?")
Teacher: "Look at our slide. A goal is something we work for, and a wish is something we hope for. Can anyone give me an example of a wish? (e.g., I wish I could fly!) And how about a goal? (e.g., I will build a tall tower with blocks!)"
Teacher: "Today, we are going to become amazing Goal Stars! We are going to set a goal and try our best to reach it. And we have a special chart to help us!"
(Display Goal Stars Slide Deck - Slide 2: "My Star Goal Chart")
Teacher: (Go to the whiteboard with a blank Star Goal Chart (or draw one).)
"My goal for today is... I will keep my desk tidy. That means I will put away my crayons and paper right after I use them. Every time I remember to put something away, I'll give myself a star on my chart! Watch me. Oh, I just finished drawing, so I put my crayons away! ⭐ I get a star here!"
Teacher: "My goal is something I can do today. It's simple and I can try my best. And if I try, I get to add a star!"
Teacher: "Now it's YOUR turn to be a Goal Star!"
(Distribute Star Goal Chart worksheets and star stickers/stamps. Display Goal Stars Slide Deck - Slide 3: "Your Goal Star!")
Teacher: "Think of one simple goal you can work on today. It could be something like:
Teacher: "On your chart, draw a picture or try to write your goal. I will come around to help you make sure your goal is just right for today!"
(Circulate, assist students in choosing and recording their goals. Remind them to place a star on their chart each time they work towards their goal throughout the day.)
Teacher: "Alright, my Goal Stars! The day is winding down. Let's look back at our goals. Did you work towards your goal today?"
(Display Goal Stars Slide Deck - Slide 4: "How Did You Do?")
Teacher: "Take out your Goal Reflection Page. Think about your goal. Did you get to add any stars? Circle 'Yes!' or 'Not yet.' And how do you feel about how you worked on your goal? You can draw a happy face, a regular face, or a sad face. It's okay no matter how you feel!"
(Give students a few minutes to complete their reflection pages.)
Teacher: "Let's gather in our Goal Share Circle!"
(Display Goal Stars Slide Deck - Slide 5: "Celebrate Our Stars!")
Teacher: "Who would like to share their goal with us and tell us how it went? What did you learn about being a Goal Star today?"
(Facilitate sharing using the Goal Share Circle Discussion Prompts. Emphasize effort and learning, not just perfect achievement.)
Teacher: "Thank you for sharing, everyone! Remember, setting goals and working towards them helps us grow and learn new things. Every time we try, we are being a Goal Star! Give yourselves a big round of applause!"
