Learn to set achievable goals

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Gather students in a circle.
  • Introduce the concept of goals by asking if they know what a goal is.
  • Explain that a goal is something you want to do or achieve.
  • Show the video Wellbeing For Children: Motivation to introduce the idea of motivation and setting goals.

Step 2

Storytelling Session

10 mins

  • Read the story 'The Little Engine That Could' to the class.
  • Pause at key moments to ask questions like, 'What was the little engine's goal?' and 'How did the engine feel when it reached the top?'
  • Encourage students to think about how the engine set a goal and worked hard to achieve it.

Step 3

Goal Setting Circle

10 mins

  • Have students sit in a circle.
  • Ask each student to share a goal they want to achieve, using gestures or acting it out if they wish.
  • Encourage students to think about the steps they might take to achieve their goals and share them with the group.

Step 4

Closure

  • Ask students to reflect on the goals shared in the circle.
  • Discuss how they can work towards their goals, just like the little engine.
