Goal Setting Adventure

Help members set goals for the new year

In this lesson, young learners will embark on a 'Goal Setting Adventure' where they will learn the basics of setting simple, achievable goals for the new year. Through a combination of storytelling, discussion, and hands-on activities, children will explore what goals are and how they can set their own. This lesson is important as it introduces the concept of goal-setting early on, fostering a sense of purpose and direction in young children.

Step 1

Introduction

3 minutes

Gather the children in a circle.
Briefly explain that today they will learn about setting goals, which are things we want to do or achieve.
Ask if anyone knows what a goal is and encourage a few responses.

Step 2

Reading: Goal Setting Story

4 minutes

Read the 'Goal Setting Story' aloud to the children.
The story should introduce a character who sets a simple goal and works towards achieving it.
Encourage children to listen carefully as they will discuss the story afterward.

Step 3

Discussion: What is a Goal?

4 minutes

Use the 'Goal Setting Discussion' questions to guide a conversation about the story.
Ask children what goals the character set and how they think the character felt when achieving them.
Encourage children to think about what goals they might want to set for themselves.

Step 4

Activity: My Goal for the New Year

6 minutes

Hand out the 'Goal Setting Worksheet' to each child.
Provide crayons, pencils, and scissors.
Instruct children to draw or write one goal they want to achieve this year.
Encourage them to be creative and think about something they really want to do or learn.

Step 5

Closure

3 minutes

Invite a few children to share their goals with the group.
Praise their efforts and creativity.
Remind them that setting goals is a fun way to think about what they want to do and learn.
