Getting to Know Your Counselor

Understand the counselor's role

In this lesson, students will have an interactive session with their school counselor to understand the counselor's role, how they can help, and when to approach them for support. This lesson aims to build trust and awareness among students, encouraging them to seek help when needed.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Welcome the students and introduce the school counselor.
  • Briefly explain the purpose of today's session: to get to know the counselor and understand their role.

Step 2

Counselor Presentation

10 mins

  • The counselor gives a short presentation about their role, how they can support students, and some of the common issues they help with.
  • Topics to cover: academic support, emotional support, conflict resolution, future planning, and any other relevant areas.

Step 3

Q&A Session

10 mins

  • Open the floor for students to ask questions. Encourage them to ask about anything they are curious or concerned about regarding the counselor's role.
  • Use the provided discussion questions to facilitate the Q&A session if needed.

Step 4

Closure

5 mins

  • Summarize the key points discussed during the session.
  • Encourage students to reach out to the counselor if they have any questions or need support in the future.
  • Thank the students and the counselor for their participation.
