Students will engage in a series of fun and interactive fitness activities designed to promote physical health and teamwork. This lesson is important because it encourages physical activity, fosters cooperation among students, and builds essential social skills.

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

  • Welcome the students and explain the purpose of the lesson: to have fun while exercising and working together as a team.
  • Show the video Wellbeing for Children: Healthy Habits (6 mins 35 secs).
  • Briefly discuss the key points from the video, focusing on the importance of physical activity and healthy habits. Ask students to share one thing they learned from the video.
  • Emphasize the importance of teamwork and following instructions during the activities.

Step 2

Warm-Up

5 mins

  • Lead the students in a series of simple stretching exercises.
  • Include stretches for the arms, legs, and torso.
  • Emphasize the importance of warming up to prevent injuries.

Step 3

Activity Stations

25 mins

  • Divide the students into small groups.
  • Set up different activity stations using cones, jump ropes, and hula hoops.
  • Assign each group to a station and explain the activity at each station.
    • Station 1: Hula hooping - students take turns seeing who can keep the hula hoop going the longest.
    • Station 2: Jump rope - students take turns jumping rope for as long as they can.
    • Station 3: Cone relay - students run from one cone to another, tagging the next teammate to go.
  • Rotate the groups every 5 minutes.

Step 4

Group Game: Fitness Tag

8 mins

  • Explain the rules of Fitness Tag:
    • One student is 'It' and tries to tag other students.
    • When a student is tagged, they must complete a fitness task (e.g., 5 jumping jacks) before rejoining the game.
    • Rotate ‘It’ every few minutes to ensure everyone gets a turn.

Step 5

Cool Down and Stretch

5 mins

  • Lead the students in a cool-down session with light stretching.
  • Include stretches for the whole body.
  • Encourage students to take deep breaths and relax their muscles.

Step 6

Closure and Reflection

2 mins

  • Gather the students and have them sit in a circle.
  • Ask them to share their favorite activity and what they enjoyed most about the session.
  • Reinforce the importance of teamwork and physical activity.
  • Thank the students for their participation and enthusiasm.
