Improve Social Skills

This lesson helps PreK students improve their social skills by engaging them in a fun and interactive 'Friendship Circle' activity. Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Gather students in a circle.
Welcome them and explain that today they will learn about friendship.
Sing a friendship song together. Refer to the handout for the song lyrics in English and Spanish.

Step 2

Story Time

10 mins

Read the story 'The Rainbow Fish' to the students.
Pause at key points to ask questions about how the characters are feeling and what they are doing.

Step 3

Role-Playing Activity

10 mins

Hand out the printable role-playing cards to students.
Encourage them to act out different friendship scenarios (e.g., sharing a toy, comforting a friend).
Guide students as they role-play, offering suggestions and praise.

Closing Discussion

5 mins

Sit back in a circle.
Ask students to share what they learned about friendship.
