Sesame Street: How to be a Good Friend video, Art supplies (construction paper, markers, glue, scissors), Small soccer balls or soft balls, and Printable friendship cards

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Welcome the students and introduce the topic by asking them, "What does it mean to be a good friend?"
  • Explain that today they will watch a video and do activities to learn how to be a great friend.

Step 2

Video: Sesame Street - How to be a Good Friend

5 mins

  • Show the video Sesame Street: How to be a Good Friend to the students.
  • Briefly discuss the content of the video, asking questions like, "What did Tamir do to be a good friend?" and "How did Baby Bear and Zoe solve their problem?"

Step 3

Collaborative Art Activity

10 mins

  • Divide the students into small groups.
  • Provide each group with art supplies. Ask them to create something together, like a big friendship poster or a craft.
  • Encourage them to use the principles from the video such as listening to each other and sharing their ideas.
  • Walk around to assist groups and remind them of the importance of cooperation.

Step 4

Game: Friendly Soccer

  • Take the students to a play area and divide them into pairs.
  • Give each pair a small soccer ball or soft ball.
  • Have them practice gently passing the ball to each other while encouraging them to say kind words or compliments when they pass the ball.
  • Reinforce the idea of being supportive and patient with one another.

Step 5

Closure

5 mins

  • Gather the students back in a circle.
  • Ask each student to say one thing they learned about being a good friend.
  • Hand out printable friendship cards with positive messages for the students to take home as a reminder of what they learned.
