Fresh and Clean: Staying Smelling Good

Welcome! In this session, we'll explore how to combat body odor and build healthy hygiene habits.

Welcome everyone! Today we will learn how to stay fresh and clean. Our objective is to understand body odor, learn good hygiene habits, and practice simple daily routines.

Why Hygiene Matters

• Keeps us healthy by reducing germs
• Boosts our confidence
• Helps us feel comfortable around others

Emphasize why hygiene matters: keeping germs away, boosting confidence, and helping us feel comfortable around friends and family.

What Causes Body Odor?

• Sweat interacting with bacteria on our skin
• Wearing dirty clothes
• Skipping showers or baths
• Certain strong-smelling foods

Ask students: “What makes us smell bad?” Then explain how sweat and bacteria interact, and how dirty clothes or skipped showers add to odor.

Queue the Princess Diaries hygiene makeover scene. After playing, ask: “How did Mia’s feelings and confidence change after she cleaned up?”

Play the Spy Kids locker room scene. Ask: “What did the kids do to solve their smell problem? What ideas can we use at home?”

Proper Handwashing Steps

  1. Wet hands with clean, running water
  2. Apply soap
  3. Scrub all surfaces for at least 20 seconds (sing "Happy Birthday")
  4. Rinse thoroughly
  5. Dry with a clean towel

Demonstrate each step at a station and have students practice handwashing using soap samples and towels. Remind them about scrubbing for 20 seconds.

Deodorant Application Tips

• Apply to clean, dry underarms
• Use a small, even layer
• Gently rub in until dry
• Reapply once each day

Show a deodorant sample and explain why it’s for personal use only. Demonstrate application and encourage questions.

Your Daily Hygiene Checklist

[ ] Take a shower or bath
[ ] Wear clean clothes
[ ] Apply deodorant
[ ] Wash hands before eating
[ ] Brush teeth morning and night

Distribute or project the checklist. Ask students to mark off daily tasks at home. Use completed checklists or a thumbs-up exit ticket as a quick assessment.
