Feelings: What's Your Vibe?
How do we show and tell others how we feel?
Welcome students. Ask them to think about how they show their feelings. You can start with a quick 'how are you feeling today' check-in, encouraging them to show with a facial expression or a word. This directly connects to the Warm-Up instruction in the Feelings: What's Your Vibe? Lesson Plan.
Our Mission Today / Nuestra Misión Hoy
We will learn to identify and describe different ways people show their feelings.
Aprenderemos a identificar y describir las diferentes formas en que las personas muestran sus sentimientos.
Introduce the objective clearly in both English and Spanish for our bilingual learners. Explain that by the end of this lesson, they'll be better at recognizing how others communicate their feelings.
Faces Tell a Story / Las Caras Cuentan una Historia
Our faces can show many feelings without saying a single word!
¡Nuestras caras pueden mostrar muchos sentimientos sin decir una sola palabra!
Think: How do your eyes, eyebrows, and mouth change when you are:
Piensa: ¿Cómo cambian tus ojos, cejas y boca cuando estás:
- Happy? / ¿Feliz?
- Sad? / ¿Triste?
- Surprised? / ¿Sorprendido?
Ask students to describe what they see in the images. How do the people look? What emotions might they be feeling? Prompt them to think about their own facial expressions. This aligns with the 'Exploring Communication of Feelings' instruction in the Feelings: What's Your Vibe? Lesson Plan.
Body Language Speaks / El Lenguaje Corporal Habla
Our bodies also give clues about how we feel!
¡Nuestros cuerpos también dan pistas sobre cómo nos sentimos!
- Arms crossed? Maybe angry or closed off. / ¿Brazos cruzados? Tal vez enojado o cerrado.
- Shoulders slumped? Could be sad or tired. / ¿Hombros caídos? Podría ser triste o cansado.
- Jumping up and down? Probably excited! / ¿Saltando? ¡Probablemente emocionado!
Discuss how body posture, gestures, and even how close someone stands to you can communicate feelings. Demonstrate a few examples (e.g., slumped shoulders for sadness, crossed arms for anger/closed off). Connect this to the 'Exploring Communication of Feelings' instruction in the Feelings: What's Your Vibe? Lesson Plan.
Words and Voice / Palabras y Voz
Sometimes, we use words to tell others exactly how we feel.
A veces, usamos palabras para decirles a los demás exactamente cómo nos sentimos.
- "I am feeling happy today!" / "¡Me siento feliz hoy!"
- "Estoy un poco nervioso." / "I am a little nervous."
Even the tone of our voice changes! How does your voice sound when you are:
¡Incluso el tono de nuestra voz cambia! ¿Cómo suena tu voz cuando estás:
- Excited? / ¿Emocionado?
- Annoyed? / ¿Molesto?
Explain that words are a direct way to communicate feelings, but even the tone of voice matters. Ask for examples of how a happy 'hello' sounds different from a sad 'hello'. This continues the 'Exploring Communication of Feelings' instruction in the Feelings: What's Your Vibe? Lesson Plan.
Putting It All Together / Juntándolo Todo
Often, we use faces, bodies, AND words to communicate feelings!
¡A menudo, usamos caras, cuerpos Y palabras para comunicar sentimientos!
Discussion Questions / Preguntas de Discusión:
1. Can someone say 'I'm okay' but their face and body show something different? How?
¿Puede alguien decir 'Estoy bien' pero su cara y cuerpo muestran algo diferente? ¿Cómo?
2. Why is it important to pay attention to all these clues?
¿Por qué es importante prestar atención a todas estas pistas?
Introduce a scenario and have students discuss the different clues. For example, 'Your friend is sitting alone, looking at the floor, and quietly says, 'I'm fine.' What clues do you have about how they really feel?' This slide integrates the Feelings Discussion mentioned in the lesson plan.
Show What You Know! / ¡Muestra lo que sabes!
Now it's your turn to show different feelings!
¡Ahora es tu turno de mostrar diferentes sentimientos!
On your worksheet, you will:
En tu hoja de trabajo, tú:
1. Draw a face for each feeling. / Dibuja una cara para cada sentimiento.
2. Write the feeling in English and Spanish. / Escribe el sentimiento en inglés y español.
Introduce the worksheet activity. Explain that they will get a chance to draw and write. Emphasize drawing different expressions and writing the words in both languages. This transitions to the 'Feeling Faces Activity' instruction and the Feeling Faces Worksheet in the Feelings: What's Your Vibe? Lesson Plan.
