Warm-Up: How Do You Feel? (5 minutes)
"Good morning, everyone! Let's start our day by showing our feelings. Can you show me with your face how you're feeling right now?"
(Pause and allow students to show their faces. Acknowledge a few students.)
"Wow! I see lots of different faces! Our faces are amazing because they can show exactly how we're feeling inside, even without using words. Today, we're going on an adventure to learn all about feelings faces!"
Introducing Feelings (10 minutes)
(Transition to Feelings Faces Fun Slide Deck - Slide 1)
"Look at our first slide! It says 'Feelings Faces Fun!' We're going to learn about three important feelings today: happy, sad, and angry. Are you ready?"
(Transition to Feelings Faces Fun Slide Deck - Slide 2: Happy!)
"Our first feeling is HAPPY! Can you hear that word? H-A-P-P-Y. Happy! When you're happy, you might feel like smiling, giggling, or playing with your friends. What makes you feel happy?"
(Allow a few students to share. Encourage them to use their words. Then prompt them to show the face.)
"Now, can everyone show me your happiest face? Big smiles! Crinkly eyes! Wonderful!"
(Transition to Feelings Faces Fun Slide Deck - Slide 3: Sad...)
"Sometimes, we don't feel happy. Sometimes we feel SAD. Can you hear that word? S-A-D. Sad. When you're sad, you might feel like crying, or your body might feel a little droopy. It's okay to feel sad. What does a sad face look like?"
(Allow a few students to share. Then prompt them to show the face.)
"Show me your sad face. Maybe a little frown, or droopy eyebrows. It's important to be kind when someone is sad."
(Transition to Feelings Faces Fun Slide Deck - Slide 4: Angry!)
"And sometimes, oh no, we might feel ANGRY! Can you hear that word? A-N-G-R-Y. Angry! When you're angry, you might feel frustrated, or your body might feel hot. It's okay to feel angry, but it's important to know what to do with that feeling, like taking a deep breath. How do we show an angry face?"
(Allow a few students to share. Then prompt them to show the face.)
"Show me your angry face. Maybe tight lips, or furrowed brows. We can calm our angry feelings by taking a deep breath in... and out..."
Feeling Matching Activity (10 minutes)
"Now, we're going to play a game with our feelings! I have some special Emotion Cards. When I show a card, I want you to tell me what feeling you see, and then make that feeling face!"
(Hold up Emotion Card - Happy)
"What feeling do you see on this card? Yes, happy! Everyone show me your happy face! When do you feel happy?"
(Repeat for Emotion Card - Sad and Emotion Card - Angry. Ask questions about when they might feel that way for each emotion.)
Cool-Down: Share a Feeling (5 minutes)
(Transition to Feelings Faces Fun Slide Deck - Slide 5: Great Job!)
"You all did such an amazing job learning about feelings today! Before we finish, I want everyone to think about one feeling we talked about ā happy, sad, or angry ā and show me that face one last time."
(Go around the room, allowing each student to share a face. Provide positive reinforcement.)
"Thank you so much for being such wonderful feelings explorers! Remember, all your feelings are important, and now you know how to show some of them with your amazing faces!"
