Identify and express emotions

Students will learn to identify and express their emotions using facial expressions and body language. This lesson is important as it helps young learners develop emotional intelligence and communication skills, which are crucial for their social development.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Gather students in a circle.

Step 2

Emotion Charades

10 mins

  • Show the students the emotion flashcards one by one.
  • Pick a student volunteer to act out the emotion on the flashcard without using words while others guess the emotion.
  • Discuss each emotion and how it can be expressed through facial expressions and body language.

Step 3

Mirror Time

10 mins

  • Give each student a small mirror.
  • Call out different emotions (happy, sad, angry, surprised, etc.) and ask students to make faces that match each emotion while looking in the mirror.
  • Discuss how their faces change with each different emotion.

Step 4

Drawing Emotions

10 mins

  • Hand out paper and crayons to each student.
  • Ask students to draw faces showing different emotions (e.g., happy, sad, angry, etc.)
  • Allow students to share and explain their drawings with the class.

Worksheet Activity

  • Distribute the Feelings worksheet.
  • Guide students to complete the worksheet by identifying different emotions shown on faces and matching them with the correct labels.
