Feelings and Emotions Adventure

Learning about our feelings

In this lesson, PreK students will explore their feelings and learn strategies for regulating emotions through engaging activities. This lesson is important as it helps young children recognize and express their emotions, fostering emotional intelligence and self-regulation skills. By connecting to the ASCA mindset and behaviors, students will develop a foundation for positive social interactions and personal well-being.

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Begin with a brief discussion about feelings. Ask students how they feel today and introduce the concept of emotions.
  • Show the "Exploring Emotions" video to give students a visual understanding of different emotions.

Step 2

Story Time

5 minutes

  • Read the story "The Way I Feel" by Janan Cain to the class.
  • Discuss the different emotions presented in the book and how they relate to the students' own feelings.

Step 3

Emotion Cards Activity

10 minutes

  • Distribute Emotion Cards to each student.
  • Ask students to pick a card that represents how they feel and share with the class.
  • Encourage students to express why they chose that emotion.

Step 4

Feelings Worksheet

5 minutes

  • Hand out the Feelings Worksheet.
  • Guide students to draw a picture of how they feel today and color it using colors that represent their emotions.

  • Gather students in a circle and ask them to share one thing they learned about feelings today.
