Emotions and Strategies Matching Activity

Welcome to our fun matching activity! Today, we will match different feelings with ways to feel calm. This activity will help you understand how to take care of your emotions.

### Materials Needed

  • Printed copy of the activity worksheet showing images of different emotions (happy, sad, angry, calm, surprised, etc.)
  • Cards with calming strategies: deep breathing, hugging a friend, taking a quiet break, stretching, and talking to a grown-up

    ### Activity Steps
  1. Introduction (1 minute):
    • Explain that each emotion has a special way to help us feel better. For example, when we are angry, deep breathing can help calm us down.

  2. Matching Exercise (2 minutes):
    • Look at the emotion pictures on your worksheet.
    • Pick one card from the bag of calming strategies and think about whether it might help you when you feel that way.
    • Place the calming strategy card next to the matching emotion picture on your worksheet.

  3. Discussion (1 minute):
    • In a group, take turns explaining why you chose to match a particular emotion with a calming strategy.
    • Share a time when you felt that emotion and how the strategy might have helped you feel better.

      ### Follow-Up Questions for Students
  • What does your body feel like when you are happy? What calming strategy did you match with that feeling?
  • If you ever feel upset or angry, which calming strategy do you think is the best, and why?
  • How do you feel after you imagine trying a calming strategy?

    ### Teacher Tips
  • Provide examples if some students are unsure, like saying, "When I feel mad, I take deep breaths to help calm down."
  • Use visual aids to help explain the emotions and strategies further.
  • Encourage the students to share personal experiences if they feel comfortable.

This activity is designed to be interactive and supportive, ensuring that every child feels safe expressing their feelings and learning new ways to feel better!
