Feeling Fresh & Confident!

Your Body, Your Power

  • What does it mean to 'feel fresh'?
  • It's about taking care of you!

Welcome students and introduce the idea of 'feeling fresh.' Ask them what comes to mind when they hear that phrase. Explain that this lesson is about understanding their changing bodies and taking care of themselves.

Amazing Bodies, Amazing Changes!

Our bodies are constantly changing.

  • Especially when you're a pre-teen!
  • These changes are normal and happen to everyone.
  • Personal Hygiene means taking care of our bodies to stay healthy and feel good.

Explain that our bodies are amazing and always changing, especially during their age (pre-teen/early puberty). Introduce the concept of personal hygiene as taking care of our bodies.

Why is Hygiene *Super* Important Now?

As we grow, our bodies change how they work.

  • More sweating!
  • Different body smells (body odor).
  • It's totally normal, but we can manage it!

Focus on why hygiene becomes more important now. Specifically address body odor and sweating. Normalize these changes and explain how good hygiene can help.

Shower Power!

Daily showering or bathing helps wash away sweat and bacteria.

  • Use soap on your whole body, especially underarms, feet, and private areas.
  • Wash your hair regularly with shampoo.
  • Rinse thoroughly!

Provide clear, actionable tips. Start with showering/bathing. Emphasize daily routines and focusing on certain body parts.

Deodorant: Your Freshness Friend

What is it?

  • Deodorant helps stop body odor.
  • Antiperspirant helps stop sweat and body odor.

When to use it?

  • Every day, especially after showering.
  • Apply to clean, dry underarms.

Introduce deodorant/antiperspirant. Explain the difference simply (one stops sweat, one stops smell) and encourage its use.

More Freshness Habits!

Don't forget these daily habits:

  • Clean Clothes: Wear fresh clothes, especially underwear and socks, every day.
  • Dental Care: Brush your teeth twice a day and floss once a day.
  • Hand Washing: Wash your hands often, especially before eating and after using the restroom.

Talk about other important hygiene habits beyond showering. Keep it concise.

Confidence Comes From Care

When you take care of your body, you feel better.

  • It boosts your confidence!
  • It shows respect for yourself and others.
  • You have the power to feel fresh and amazing every day!

Connect hygiene to confidence and self-esteem. Empower them to take ownership of their health.

Your Daily Routine Tracker

Let's build healthy habits!

Introduce the journal activity. Explain that tracking helps build habits.

Questions & Next Steps

Any questions about staying fresh and confident?

  • Remember, taking care of your body is a powerful act of self-love!

Conclude by inviting questions and reinforcing the main message.

Discussion

Why Does Hygiene Matter?

Introduction: The Power of Feeling Fresh (5 minutes)

  • Teacher: "We've talked about what 'feeling fresh' means. Now, let's dive deeper. Why do you think personal hygiene is important, especially as you get older? What changes have you noticed in yourselves or friends around your age?"

  • Teacher: "What are some of the positive feelings or benefits you experience when you know you're clean and have taken care of your hygiene?"

Group Discussion: Daily Habits for a Fresh Start (10 minutes)

  • Teacher: "Let's brainstorm some specific daily habits that help us stay fresh. What are some things you do every day, or almost every day, to take care of your body and hygiene?"

    • Prompt students to think about showering, using deodorant, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes, washing hands.

  • Teacher: "Why is it important to change into clean clothes, especially underwear and socks, every day? What happens if we wear the same clothes too many times without washing them?"

  • Teacher: "Deodorant is a tool many people start using around your age. Can someone explain what deodorant does and why it can be helpful? When is a good time to apply it?"

Reflection & Empowerment (5 minutes)

  • Teacher: "Sometimes, talking about these topics can feel a little uncomfortable, but it's super important for your health and confidence. What's one thing you learned or were reminded of today about personal hygiene that you think is most important?"

  • Teacher: "How does taking care of your personal hygiene connect to your self-confidence and how you feel about yourself when you're at school or with friends?"
