Step 1

Warm-Up: How Are You Feeling?

5 minutes

  • Display Slide 1 of the Feeling Faces Fun! Slide Deck.
    - Ask students: "How are you feeling today? Give me a thumbs up if you're feeling happy, a thumbs down if you're feeling a little sad, or a wiggle if you're feeling excited!"
    - Explain that today they will learn more about feelings.

Step 2

Introducing Emotions & Story Time

10 minutes

  • Display Slide 2 of the Feeling Faces Fun! Slide Deck. Introduce the four main emotions: Happy, Sad, Angry, Scared.
    - Use the Emotion Cards to show each emotion.
    - Display Slide 3 and read a short, age-appropriate story about a character experiencing different emotions (e.g., a simple story about a child losing a toy and then finding it). Emphasize how the character feels at different points.
    - After the story, display Slide 4 and ask: "How did the character feel when...?" and "What made them feel that way?"

    - The rest of the class guesses the emotion.

Feeling Faces Fun!

Let's explore our emotions together!

How are you feeling today?

Welcome students and gauge their current mood. Remind them that all feelings are okay.

What Are Emotions?

Emotions are feelings we have inside us.

* Happy: When you feel joy!
* Sad: When you feel upset or down.
* Angry: When you feel mad or frustrated.
* Scared: When you feel afraid.

It's okay to feel all these emotions!

Introduce the four core emotions. Use the Emotion Cards to visually represent each one.

Listen to Our Story

Let's listen to a story about how different feelings show up!

Read a short, simple story to the class that features a character experiencing different emotions. For example, a story about a child losing a favorite toy and then finding it. Emphasize the character's feelings at different points.

Story Discussion

How did the character feel when... ?

What made the character feel that way?

Have you ever felt like that?

Lead a discussion about the story, prompting students to identify the character's emotions and the reasons behind them.

Emotion Charades!

Let's act out our feelings!

In your groups, you'll get an emotion.
Act it out for the class to guess!

Remember, no talking!

Explain the 'Emotion Charades' activity. Divide students into small groups and provide each with an Emotion Card.

Drawing Our Feelings

Now it's your turn to draw!

Draw a face for each emotion on your worksheet.

Think about what happy, sad, angry, and scared look like!

Introduce the 'Emotion Faces Worksheet' and provide clear instructions. Circulate to offer support and encourage creative expression.

Time to Share!

What is one emotion you learned about today?

Or, what is one emotion you are feeling right now?

Thank you for sharing your feelings!

Conclude the lesson by asking students to share one thing they learned or an emotion they are feeling.
