Warm Up

Fact Fluency Warm-Up Activity

Welcome students! Today we're starting with a quick mental math game to get our brains warmed up for our lesson on fact fluency. This activity is designed to be fun, fast-paced, and supportive for everyone.

Instructions:

  1. Stand in a circle: Everyone, please form a circle so we can all see each other.
  2. Listen carefully: I'll say a quick math problem aloud. For example, "What is 6 + 7?"
  3. Answer quickly: The student next to me (or a volunteer) will answer as quickly as possible. Then, the next student has to answer a different problem.
  4. Visual Aids: Look at the board where the problem will also be written in a large, clear font for everyone to read.
  5. Peer Support: If a student needs help, feel free to whisper or give a quick hint before the student answers, but try to let everyone have a chance to try first.

Example Warm-Up Round:

  • Teacher: "What is 8 + 5?"
  • Student: "13!"
  • Teacher: "Great job! Now, what is 9 - 4?"

The goal is to keep the energy high and help us transition into our learning session. Let's cheer each other on and have fun!
