This lesson focuses on helping students express their thoughts and feelings clearly and respectfully through verbal and non-verbal communication activities. Step 1

Introduction

Activity 1: Verbal Communication

15 mins

  • Distribute post-it notes and markers to each student.
  • Ask students to write a short message they want to communicate to a friend.
  • Pair students and have them exchange messages, discussing how they felt receiving and sending the message.

Step 3

Activity 2: Non-Verbal Communication

15 mins

  • Use the Printable Communication Cards.
  • Each card has an emotion or message that students must convey without words.
  • Students take turns acting out the card while others guess the message.

  • Use the Discussion Questions attachment to guide a conversation about what students learned.
  • Encourage students to reflect on the challenges and successes of communicating without words.
