Exploring Nature Adventure

Learn about local plants and animals

This lesson involves taking students on a nature walk to learn about local plants and animals. They will engage in a scavenger hunt and record their findings in a nature journal. This lesson promotes physical activity, observation skills, and a deeper appreciation for the environment.

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

Explain the purpose of the nature walk.
Discuss what students already know about local plants and animals.
Introduce the scavenger hunt and nature journal activities.

Step 2

Nature Walk & Scavenger Hunt

30 mins

Take the students on a nature walk around the school or local park.
Use the scavenger hunt printable to identify and collect items.
Encourage students to ask questions and observe carefully.
Allow students to collect small, safe items to inspect later.

Step 3

Nature Journal Activity

15 mins

Once back in the classroom, distribute nature journals.
Ask students to draw and write about what they found.
Encourage them to use their senses to describe their experiences (e.g., sight, smell, touch).
Share and discuss findings as a group.

Step 4

Closure

5 mins

Recap what was learned during the nature walk.
Ask students to share their favorite discovery.
Discuss the importance of caring for the environment.
