Warm-Up: What Comes to Mind? (5 minutes)

(Teacher displays the first slide of the Europe: More Than Maps! Slide Deck)

"Good morning, everyone! Today we are going on an exciting journey to explore a whole new continent. Has anyone heard the word 'Europe' before? What comes to mind when you hear it? Don't worry if you don't know much, we're here to learn together!"

"Raise your hand if you can tell me one word, one place, or one idea you associate with Europe. It could be anything!"

(Teacher writes student responses on the board.)

Introduction to Europe (Slide Deck & Script) (10 minutes)

(Teacher moves to Slide 2: "What is Europe?")

"Great ideas everyone! Now, let's learn more about what Europe truly is. Europe is one of the biggest land areas on Earth, called a continent. Just like North America is a continent, where we live, Europe is another continent. It's made up of many different countries, and each country has its own special culture and language."

"Can you say 'continent' with me? Continent! Excellent!"

(Teacher moves to Slide 3: "Where is Europe?")

"Look at this map! This is Europe. See the big blue areas around it? To our left, Europe is next to the Atlantic Ocean. Can you point to the Atlantic Ocean on the slide?"

"And below Europe, we see another large body of water called the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean Sea is famous for its warm weather and beautiful coasts. Can you point to the Mediterranean Sea?"

"Europe is also connected to another big continent called Asia. Together, they form a huge landmass!"

(Teacher moves to Slide 4: "Famous European Landmarks")

"Now, let's look at some super famous places in Europe! These are called landmarks – special buildings or natural features that people recognize."

"First, look at this tall, iron tower. This is the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It's a symbol of France, and it's very, very tall! Imagine climbing all those stairs!"

"Next, we have the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. This is a very, very old building where people used to watch shows a long, long time ago. It's still amazing to see today!"

"And here is Big Ben, a giant clock tower in London, United Kingdom. You can hear its chimes all over the city!"

"Which of these landmarks looks the most interesting to you and why?"

(Teacher moves to Slide 5: "Languages & Culture")

"Europe is not just about buildings and geography; it's also rich in culture! People in Europe speak many different languages. Think about it – some speak French, some speak Spanish, others German, and Italian! It's like a whole world of words!"

"Each country also has its own special food, music, and traditions. For example, Italy is famous for pizza and pasta, while Germany is known for delicious sausages and bread!"

"What is your favorite food? Do you think they eat it in Europe?"

Europe Map Activity (10 minutes)

"Alright, class! Now it's your turn to become explorers. I'm going to give you a map of Europe. On this map, you will see some of the places we just talked about."

"Please take one Europe Map Activity worksheet. We will use our colored pencils or markers to color in the Atlantic Ocean blue, and the Mediterranean Sea another shade of blue. Then, you will identify one or two countries and one landmark we discussed."

"I'll be walking around to help you. Remember to use your slides as a guide if you need a reminder!"

(Teacher circulates, providing support and guidance.)

Cool-Down: European Culture Showcase (5 minutes)

(Teacher moves to Slide 6: "Quick Check!")

"Fantastic work on your maps, everyone! To finish up, let's do a quick 'Culture Showcase.'"

"Think about everything we learned today: the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, Big Ben, different languages, or delicious European foods. What is one new thing you learned or found most interesting about Europe today?"

"Turn to a partner and share your one interesting fact. You can point to it on your map if it's a place!"
