Empathy in Action

Understand and practice empathy

Students will explore the concept of empathy through interactive activities and discussions. They will learn how to understand and share the feelings of others, fostering a more compassionate classroom community. This lesson helps in building a strong empathetic foundation early on which is crucial for their social development.

Introduction

Slide 1: Introduction

Begin by explaining what empathy is: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Use simple language that Grade 1 students can understand. Ask students if they have ever felt sad, happy, or scared and how they think others may feel those emotions too.

Conduct a class discussion using the provided 'Empathy Discussion Questions' attachment. Allow students to share their thoughts and guide the discussion to ensure all students participate and understand the concept.

Use 'Empathy Role-Play Scenarios' to help students practice empathy. Break students into small groups and give each group a scenario. Have the groups act out their scenarios and discuss how the characters might be feeling.
