Build empathy and understanding

Step 1

Activity: Kind and Unkind Words

  • Distribute post-it notes and markers to each student.
  • Ask students to write down a kind word or phrase on one post-it and an unkind word or phrase on another.
  • Collect the post-its and read them aloud, discussing how each word might make someone feel.

Discussion: Empathy

  • Use the Empathy Discussion Questions to guide a conversation about how words affect our feelings and actions.
  • Encourage students to think about how they can be more empathetic in their daily interactions.
