Emotional Weather Report

Recognize and express emotions

In this lesson, students will engage in a creative activity where they personify their emotions by comparing them to weather patterns. Step 1

Introduction

3 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle and explain that today they will be learning about feelings and how to express them.
  • Ask students if they know what weather is and give examples (sunny, rainy, stormy).
  • Explain that sometimes our feelings can be like the weather.

Step 2

Creative Activity

8 minutes

  • Hand out paper and crayons to each student.
  • Ask students to think about how they are feeling today and choose a weather pattern that matches their emotion (e.g., sunny for happy, rainy for sad).
  • Encourage them to draw a picture of themselves with the weather they chose.
  • Walk around and assist students as needed, asking them about their drawings and feelings.

Closure

4 minutes

  • Gather students back in a circle with their drawings.
  • Use the Printable Weather Emotion Cards to discuss different emotions and their weather patterns.
  • Ask a few students to share their drawings and explain why they chose that weather for their feelings.
  • Reinforce that all feelings are okay and it's good to talk about them.
