Feeling Words Adventure Plan

Students will expand their emotional vocabulary to identify and express feelings more precisely.

Understanding and naming emotions helps students develop self-awareness and communicate effectively with others, leading to healthier relationships and better problem-solving skills.

Through interactive activities and visual aids, students will explore a range of feeling words and practice using them.

Materials

My Feeling Word Bank (slide-deck), My Feeling Word Bank, Emotion Charades, and Match the Feeling Faces

Prep

Prepare Materials

15 minutes

Review the Feeling Words Adventure Plan and all linked materials: My Feeling Word Bank, Emotion Charades, and Match the Feeling Faces.
Ensure projector or smartboard is ready for the slide deck.
Print copies of the Match the Feeling Faces for each student.

Step 1

Introduction: What Are Feelings?

5 minutes

Begin by asking students to share a feeling they have right now. Introduce the idea that there are many different words to describe our feelings, not just happy or sad. Use My Feeling Word Bank Slide 1-2.

Step 2

Exploring New Feeling Words

10 minutes

Go through My Feeling Word Bank (Slides 3-8), introducing new emotion words. For each word, discuss what it means and when someone might feel that way. Encourage students to share examples.

Step 3

Emotion Charades Game

10 minutes

Play Emotion Charades. Divide students into small groups. Have them take turns acting out an emotion from the My Feeling Word Bank while others guess. Emphasize non-verbal cues and clear expression.

Step 4

Match the Feeling Faces Worksheet

5 minutes

Distribute the Match the Feeling Faces. Instruct students to match the feeling words to the correct faces. This can be a quick individual assessment or a pair-work activity. Collect at the end.

Let's explore the amazing world of feelings!

Welcome students and introduce the topic of feelings. Ask them what feelings they know.

What Are Feelings?

Feelings are what we experience inside!
There are so many different feelings!

Explain that feelings are emotions we experience and that there are many words to describe them. Ask students to share a feeling they have right now.

Happy

When you feel joy or gladness.

Introduce 'Happy'. Discuss what makes us feel happy and what happy looks like.

Sad

When you feel sorrow or unhappiness.

Introduce 'Sad'. Discuss what makes us feel sad and what sad looks like.

Angry

When you feel mad or frustrated.

Introduce 'Angry'. Discuss what makes us feel angry and what angry looks like.

Emotion Charades: Act It Out!

How to Play:

  1. Divide into small groups.
  2. One person secretly picks an emotion word from our My Feeling Word Bank (or one of the words below).
  3. Act out the emotion without speaking! Use your face and body.
  4. Your group members guess the emotion.
  5. Once guessed, a new person takes a turn!
