Emotional Charades

Identify and express emotions

In this lesson, students will engage in a charades game focused on expressing and identifying different emotions. This activity promotes emotional awareness and encourages empathy and perspective-taking as students learn to recognize feelings. It is important for young students to develop these skills to better understand themselves and others, fostering a supportive classroom environment.

Step 1

Introduction to Emotions

5 minutes

  • Begin by asking students what emotions are and why they are important.
  • Discuss a few common emotions (happy, sad, angry, surprised) and ask students to show what these emotions might look like on their faces.

Step 2

Charades Game

10 minutes

  • Divide the class into small groups.
  • Provide each group with a set of Emotion Charades Cards.
  • Explain the rules: one student picks a card and acts out the emotion without speaking, while the others guess.
  • Rotate roles so each student has a chance to act and guess.

Step 3

Reflection and Discussion

5 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle and discuss the emotions they acted out.
  • Use the Discussion Questions to guide the conversation about how it felt to act and guess emotions, and why understanding emotions is important.
