Emotion Detectives

Identify and match emotions

In this engaging lesson, students will become 'Emotion Detectives' as they explore and identify different facial expressions and match them with the correct emotion cards. This activity is designed to enhance students' emotional recognition and empathy, crucial skills for their social and emotional development. By understanding and identifying emotions, students can better navigate social interactions and build stronger relationships.

Step 1

Introduction to Emotions

5 minutes

Begin by discussing what emotions are and why they are important.
Ask students to share some emotions they know (e.g., happy, sad, angry).
Explain that today they will become 'Emotion Detectives' to learn more about emotions.

Step 2

Emotion Detective Activity

15 minutes

Distribute the emotion cards to students.
Explain that they will walk around the classroom to find classmates who match the facial expression on their card.
Once they find a match, they should discuss what emotion it is and why they think so.
Encourage students to use facial expressions and body language to help identify emotions.

Step 3

Reflection and Discussion

5 minutes

Gather students in a circle to discuss the activity.
Ask students to share what emotions they identified and how they felt during the activity.
Discuss why understanding emotions is important in everyday life.
