Personal Healing Blueprint

Guide a 9th grader through art and journaling activities to process personal loss, fostering healing and emotional self-awareness.

This session helps the student externalize grief, explore emotions safely, and build coping strategies through creative expression, supporting resilience and emotional growth.

Step 1

Opening Check-In

5 minutes

  • Welcome the student and set a safe, supportive tone.
  • Ask how they have been feeling since your last meeting.
  • Reiterate the session’s goal from Personal Healing Blueprint.

Step 2

Memory Mosaic Art Activity

10 minutes

  • Provide the student with the Memory Mosaic Journal.
  • Instruct them to select or draw images, words, and symbols that represent a cherished memory of their lost loved one.
  • Encourage them to freely express emotions without judgment.

Step 3

Guided Reflection Journaling

10 minutes

  • Prompt the student: “What do I remember most vividly?”, “How did this person influence me?”, “What emotions arise when I think of them?”
  • Have them write responses in the Memory Mosaic Journal.
  • Offer supportive pauses and gentle prompts to deepen reflection.

Step 4

Collage of Remembrance Craft

10 minutes

  • Supply magazines, photos, stickers, and glue for the Collage of Remembrance.
  • Guide the student to assemble a visual collage reflecting positive memories and feelings.
  • Discuss any thoughts or emotions that emerge during the process.

Step 5

Emotion Tracking and Discussion

8 minutes

  • Hand out the Emotion Tracking Sheet.
  • Ask the student to identify and rate emotions experienced during today’s activities.
  • Explore healthy coping strategies for each emotion listed.

Step 6

Affirmation Card Creation

5 minutes

  • Provide the Affirmation Card Craft template.
  • Encourage the student to write supportive, self-affirming statements.
  • Decorate the card with colors or stickers to enhance personalization.

Step 7

Closing Reflection and Next Steps

2 minutes

  • Invite the student to share one key takeaway from today’s session.
  • Outline next steps and available support resources.
  • Encourage them to keep their journals and crafts in a safe place.

Memory Mosaic Journal

Use this guided journal to express your memories of your loved one through art and reflection. You can draw, paste images, or write freely in each section.

1. Memory Collage Canvas

Draw or glue images, words, symbols, or colors that represent a cherished memory. Let your creativity flow without judgment:













2. Reflective Prompts

  1. Describe the memory you are illustrating. What happened? Who was there? Where were you?











  1. What emotions arise when you think of this memory? List at least three feelings and describe why each comes up.






  1. What senses do you recall? (Sounds, smells, sights, tastes, or touches.) How do they bring the memory to life?






  1. How has this memory influenced how you see your loved one? What qualities or lessons stand out?






  1. Write a message you would like to share with your loved one now. Speak from the heart.












Keep this journal as a safe place for your memories and emotions. You can return to add new reflections whenever you feel inspired or in need of comfort.

Activity

Collage of Remembrance

Time: 10 minutes

Materials Needed: magazines, personal photos, stickers, colored paper, scissors, glue, a blank sheet or canvas.

Steps:

  1. Gather & Select: Flip through magazines or photos and choose images, words, or colors that remind you of positive memories with your loved one.
  2. Arrange & Glue: On your blank sheet, arrange your selections into a collage. There’s no right or wrong way—let your intuition guide the layout.
  3. Reflect As You Create: Notice any thoughts or emotions that arise as you work. If you feel comfortable, quietly name these feelings.
  4. Pause & Discuss: Once your collage feels complete, take a moment to observe it. What stands out to you most? What feelings does it evoke?
  5. Optional Notes: Use the space below to jot a few words about your collage and how it made you feel.







Keep this collage somewhere safe. You can revisit it whenever you want to remember the good moments and connect with your feelings.

Emotion Tracking Sheet

Reflect on the emotions you experienced during today’s session. For each emotion, rate its intensity from 1 (low) to 5 (high) and brainstorm a healthy coping strategy you could use when you notice this feeling in the future.

Cool Down

Affirmation Card Craft

Time: 5 minutes

Materials Needed: Printed affirmation card template, colored pencils or markers, stickers, washi tape, and any other decorative supplies.

Steps:

  1. Distribute Templates: Give the student one or two blank affirmation card templates.
  2. Brainstorm Affirmations: Invite them to think of 3–5 positive statements about themselves (e.g., “I am strong,” “I am creative,” “I am worthy of love”).
  3. Write & Decorate: Have the student neatly write each affirmation on a card. Encourage them to personalize it—add doodles, color borders, or stick on decorations.
  4. Reflect on Each Statement: After writing, prompt the student to choose their favorite card and say it aloud once—noticing how it feels to affirm themselves.
  5. Keep & Use: Suggest they place their cards somewhere visible (mirror, locker, journal) and read them whenever they need a confidence boost.
