Explore colleges and careers

This lesson will introduce students to a variety of colleges and careers, helping them to imagine their future opportunities. By integrating a video, engaging activities, and a worksheet, students will actively participate in discovering careers, sparking their interests for the future.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Welcome the students and briefly talk about the importance of thinking about their future careers.
Introduce the topic by asking students what they want to be when they grow up.
Introduce the video on various careers.

Step 2

Video Viewing

5 mins

Show the students the selected video: Story: Our Class is a Family.
Encourage students to think about the different careers they see in the video.

Step 3

Career Matching Game

10 mins

Divide the students into small groups and provide each group with a set of career matching cards.
Explain that they will play a matching game where they need to match career names with related pictures and descriptions.
Encourage teamwork and discussion as they match the cards.

Step 4

Career Interest Worksheet

5 mins

Distribute the bilingual Career Interest Worksheet to each student.
Ask the students to draw or write about one career they are interested in.
Provide guidance and assistance as needed, ensuring both English and Spanish languages are visible.

Step 5

Discussion & Closure

5 mins

Gather students for a brief discussion on what they learned.
Ask a few students to share the careers they are interested in and why.
Reinforce the idea that they can achieve their dreams with hard work and dedication.
Thank students for their participation and encourage them to keep exploring different careers.
