Discover Your Social Style

Welcome! Today we’ll explore our unique social-emotional styles to build self-awareness, confidence, and stronger connections.

Greet students and share the objectives: identify your social-emotional style, recognize your strengths, and plan how to use them in relationships.

Warm-Up: What Is Social Style?

• What does “Social Style” mean to you?
• Social Style = your natural way of interacting with others

Write “Social Style” on the board. Ask 2–3 volunteers: “What does this phrase mean to you?” Then provide a concise definition.

The Four Social-Emotional Styles

• Analytical: Thoughtful & detail-oriented
• Amiable: Supportive & empathetic
• Expressive: Enthusiastic & sociable
• Driver: Assertive & goal-focused

Introduce each style with a quick example (e.g., “An Analytical friend might plan every detail of a group project.”). Encourage students to note which resonates most.

Self-Assessment Activity

• Complete the Social Style Self-Assessment Worksheet
• Answer honestly and total your style scores

Distribute the worksheet and set a 10-minute timer. Circulate and help any student who has questions about the statements or scoring.

Partner Discussion

• Share your top style and key strengths
• Discuss: How do these strengths show up in your friendships?

Have students find a partner. Circulate to listen for thoughtful connections and to reinforce respectful listening skills.

Personal Action Plan

• In your Reflection Journal, write one specific way you’ll leverage your social style this week
• Make it clear and actionable

Provide an example: “As an Expressive, I will invite quieter classmates into our group chats.” Encourage clear, specific actions.

Exit Ticket

On an index card, write one sentence:
“How will today’s insight change your interactions?”

Collect index cards as students leave. Use responses to gauge understanding and plan any follow-up.

Thank You!

Understanding your style empowers you to engage intentionally and positively with others. Keep practicing!

Close by reinforcing that recognizing and using our strengths helps us connect better. Invite students to share any successes next time.
