Discover Careers Script
Introduction (2 minutes)
Teacher: “Good morning, everyone! Today, we’re going to explore a powerful tool called Schoolinks that helps you discover careers that match your personal interests. By the end of this lesson, you’ll know how to navigate Schoolinks, identify your top interests, and begin connecting those interests to real career paths.
“Why does this matter? When you choose a career that aligns with what you love, you’re more motivated, you learn better, and you’re more likely to be happy in the long run. Let’s dive in!”
(Quick check-in)
Teacher: “Can someone share one hobby or interest you really enjoy? Just shout it out.”
Wait for 2–3 responses.
Teacher: “Great! Keep those interests in mind as we explore careers that could match them.”
Schoolinks Career Demo (5 minutes)
Teacher: “Please turn your attention to the board where I’ve pulled up our Career Exploration Slide Deck. Let’s click on the Schoolinks portal and log in.”
(Teacher logs in and shares screen.)
Teacher: “First, notice the search bar at the top. You can type keywords like ‘design,’ ‘science,’ or any word that matches your interest. Next, over here on the left, you have industry filters to narrow down fields like healthcare, technology, or the arts.
“Let’s try an example. I’ll type ‘art.’ Watch how a list of careers appears—graphic designer, architect, animator. Click on ‘graphic designer.’”
(Teacher clicks and shows job profile.)
Teacher: “Here’s the job description. See the skills required: creativity, digital tools, communication. Notice the interest tags—this one is tagged ‘Artistic.’ It also shows average salary and education level.
“Questions so far? What feature stands out to you? (Pause and take 1–2 questions.)”
Interest Mapping Activity (8 minutes)
Teacher: “Now, I’m handing out the Interest Mapping Activity Sheet.”
(Distribute sheets or share link.)
Teacher: “On this sheet, you’ll list your top three personal interests in the first column. Then, use Schoolinks on your device to find two careers that match each interest. Write the career name, the key skills required, and one reason you think it’s a good fit.
“I’ll give you eight minutes. Work quietly, and I’ll circulate to help. If you get stuck, raise your hand.”
(Start the timer.)
(After about 7 minutes)
Teacher: “One minute left—wrap up your final entry.”
(Stop at 8 minutes.)
Quiz (3 minutes)
Teacher: “Time’s up! Please put your pens down and take out the Career Interests Quiz.”
Teacher: “This is a short, five-question quiz to check that you can identify interests and navigate Schoolinks features. You have three minutes. Go!”
(Set a timer for 3 minutes.)
(Collect quizzes.)
Closure & Reflection (2 minutes)
Teacher: “Let’s wrap up by sharing. Who would like to volunteer one interest and one career they discovered?”
(Invite two volunteers.)
Volunteer 1: (Shares)
Volunteer 2: (Shares)
Teacher: “Thank you! Today we saw how your interests can guide you to careers that fit you well. Remember, matching what you love with what you do can make your future goals clearer and more exciting.
“Feel free to explore Schoolinks on your own after class and update your interest map as you learn more. Great work today!”
(End of lesson.)
