Daily living Skills

This lesson focuses on teaching 1st-grade students essential daily living skills through a fun and interactive activity. Students will work collaboratively to complete tasks that mimic real-life scenarios, helping them develop practical skills and teamwork. This lesson is important as it equips young learners with the foundational skills needed for independence and confidence in everyday tasks.

Printable Cards: Daily Living Tasks, Markers, Scissors, Glue, Large Paper Sheets, Toothbrush and Model Teeth, Practice Laces, Buttoning Shirt, Backpack, and Table Setting Items

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Gather students in a circle and introduce the topic of daily living skills.
  • Explain that they will be learning important skills that help us in our everyday lives.
  • Briefly discuss examples of daily living skills (e.g., brushing teeth, tying shoes).

Step 2

Activity Setup

5 mins

  • Set up different stations around the classroom, each representing a different daily living skill (e.g., brushing teeth, tying shoes, buttoning a shirt, packing a backpack, setting the table).
  • Distribute the printable cards with daily living tasks to each station.

Step 3

Role-Playing Stations

15 mins

  • Divide students into small groups and assign each group to a starting station.
  • Instruct students to practice the skill at their station, using the materials provided.
  • After a few minutes, have groups rotate to the next station.
  • Continue until all groups have visited each station.
  • Walk around to assist and guide as needed.

Step 4

Closure

5 mins

  • Ask each group to share their favorite station and what they learned.
  • Discuss as a class why these skills are important and how they help us in daily life.
  • Praise students for their participation and effort.
