Clean and Confident Guide

Students will identify essential daily hygiene tasks and sequence them correctly, using visuals and hands-on activities to build self-esteem and independent routines.

Daily hygiene routines support students’ health, confidence, and independence. Teaching these skills fosters lifelong habits, boosts self-esteem, and reduces distractions from poor personal care.

Step 1

Warm-Up Quiz

5 minutes

  • Distribute the Product Identification Quiz
  • Ask students to match pictures of hygiene products to their names
  • Provide verbal and visual prompts for students needing support
  • Check answers as a group and correct misconceptions

Step 2

Introduction Discussion

5 minutes

  • Show Hygiene Habits Visuals slide deck
  • Discuss why brushing teeth, washing hands, and grooming matter
  • Ask: “How do you feel when you are clean?” to engage self-esteem talk
  • Use clear, concise language and repeat key points for ELL or special ed students

Step 3

Sequencing Activity

10 minutes

  • Divide students into pairs and give each pair a set of Routine Sequencing Cards
  • Instruct pairs to arrange cards in correct daily order (e.g., wake up → brush teeth → wash face)
  • Circulate to support sequencing and provide sentence starters: “First I… Next I…”
  • Offer one-on-one modeling for students who need extra guidance

Step 4

Worksheet Practice

10 minutes

  • Hand out My Hygiene Tracker
  • Explain how to use the chart to check off tasks each morning and evening
  • Model filling in the first row on the board
  • Allow students to begin tracking and prompt peer partners to assist

5 minutes

  • Conduct a quick oral quiz: name three hygiene steps in order
  • Collect trackers to glance at completion and understanding
  • Provide positive feedback and note any steps needing reteaching

Closure & Reflection

  • Ask each student to share one new habit they’ll practice
  • Reinforce confidence: praise progress and independence
  • Remind students to use their trackers at home and school
  • Offer home–school note for parents summarizing the skills learned

Slide Deck

Hygiene Habits Visuals

A colorful guide to your daily hygiene routine. Let’s get clean and confident!

Welcome the students and introduce the slide deck. Explain that today they’ll learn key steps to stay clean and feel confident.

Why Hygiene Matters

• Keeps you healthy (fights germs)
• Boosts your confidence
• Shows respect for yourself and others

Discuss with students why hygiene is important. Prompt examples from their own lives.

Brushing Your Teeth

• Morning and night
• Use pea-size toothpaste
• Brush all surfaces for 2 minutes

Show a toothbrush and toothpaste. Model brushing in small circles for two minutes, then have students pretend to brush.

Washing Your Hands

• Wet, lather with soap
• Scrub for 20 seconds (front, back, between fingers)
• Rinse and dry

Demonstrate hand-washing at the sink. Encourage students to rub all parts of their hands.

Cleaning Face & Body

• Use gentle cleanser or soap
• Rinse thoroughly
• Pat dry with a clean towel

Explain face-washing and body washing. Show pictures of gentle face cleanser and soap.

Hair Care

• Brush hair daily
• Shampoo 1–2 times per week
• Rinse well and dry

Show a hairbrush and shampoo bottle. Ask how often they think they should wash hair.

Wearing Clean Clothes

• Change clothes every day
• Fresh socks and underwear daily
• Helps you feel neat and tidy

Display clean shirts, socks, and underwear. Talk about why clean clothes matter.

Using Deodorant

• Apply a thin layer under each arm
• Helps you feel fresh all day

Introduce deodorant as an optional step for older students. Model applying a small amount.

Your Daily Routine

  6. Apply deodorant (if needed)
  7. Evening: repeat teeth & face wash

Review all steps in order. Point to each icon and have students say them aloud.
