Warm-Up: Where in the World? (5 minutes)
(Teacher displays a world map or globe)
"Good morning, everyone! Today, we're going on an exciting adventure. Look at this map! What do you see? Can anyone point to a country they know?"
(Allow a few students to respond and point out countries. Guide them if needed.)
"That's right! The world is a very big place, full of many, many different countries and people. And guess what? All these different people have different cultures!"
"What is 'culture'? Culture is like the special way a group of people lives. It includes their language, their food, their clothes, their music, and how they celebrate important days. It's what makes each group unique and wonderful!"
Exploring Cultures (10 minutes)
(Transition to the first slide: 'Welcome to Culture Quest!')
"Are you ready to be cultural explorers? Our mission today is to learn about some amazing cultures around the world!"
(Move to the slide: 'Hello Around the World!')
"Let's start with something we do every day: saying hello! How do you say hello to your friends or family?"
(Allow students to share. Then, introduce the examples on the slide.)
"Wow, so many ways! Did you know that in Japan, people often bow to say hello? Or in India, they put their hands together and say 'Namaste'? In France, people sometimes give a little kiss on the cheek to say 'Bonjour'! Isn't that interesting?"
(Move to the slide: 'Delicious Dishes!')
"Next, let's talk about my favorite topic: FOOD! What are some of your favorite foods?"
(Allow students to share. Then, introduce the examples on the slide.)
"Yum! I love all those foods. Different countries have different special foods. In Italy, they are famous for pizza and pasta! In Mexico, you might eat delicious tacos or burritos. And in China, many people eat rice and noodles every day. What a tasty world!"
(Move to the slide: 'Festive Fun!')
"Finally, let's talk about celebrations! What is a celebration that your family has?"
(Allow students to share. Then, introduce the examples on the slide.)
"Wonderful! Celebrations are so much fun. Did you know that in India, people celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights? In Brazil, they have a big party called Carnival with lots of music and dancing! And in China, for Lunar New Year, children get red envelopes with money and they watch dragon dances! So many exciting ways to celebrate!"
Activity: My Culture Passport (10 minutes)
(Transition to the slide: 'Your Culture Passport!' and hand out the My Culture Passport worksheets and art supplies.)
"Now it's YOUR turn to be the expert! I'm giving each of you a My Culture Passport. This is your special book to show what you learned today."
"On your passport, I want you to draw or write about one or two things you learned about different cultures today. Maybe you draw someone bowing from Japan, or a pizza from Italy, or fireworks from a celebration! You can choose any cultural fact that you remember and thought was interesting."
"You have 10 minutes to work on your passports. Be creative and show me what you discovered!"
(Circulate around the room, offering help and encouragement. Ask questions like, "What culture are you drawing about?" or "What did you learn about their food?")
Cool-Down: Share and Reflect (5 minutes)
(As time winds down, ask students to put down their pencils and prepare to share.)
"Alright, explorers! Time to share our passports. Who would like to show us their My Culture Passport and tell us one interesting thing they drew or wrote about a culture?"
(Call on a few students to share. Make sure to affirm their contributions.)
"Amazing work, everyone! You all did a fantastic job on your My Culture Passports. Today, we went on a Culture Quest and learned that our world is full of incredible, unique cultures. Remember to always be kind and respectful to people from all different backgrounds! Every culture is special!"
(End with the slide: 'Journey's End (For Now!)')
