Creative Writing Challenge

Develop creative writing skills

In this lesson, leaders will engage in a creative writing challenge where they will craft their own short stories or poems. This session includes peer review to foster feedback skills. This activity helps students enhance their creative thinking, writing abilities, and peer-review skills.

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

Welcome students and introduce the concept of the creative writing challenge.
Explain the importance of creative writing and how it enhances critical thinking and creativity.
Briefly outline the structure of the session.

Step 2

Brainstorming Session

20 mins

Distribute the 'Brainstorming Worksheet' attachment.
Allow students to brainstorm ideas for their short stories or poems using the worksheet.
Encourage them to think about characters, settings, and plot ideas.

Step 3

Writing Session

40 mins

Instruct students to start writing their short stories or poems based on their brainstormed ideas.
Provide guidance and support as needed.
Remind them to focus on creativity and expression.

Step 4

Peer Review

30 mins

Distribute the 'Peer Review Guide' attachment.
Pair students and have them exchange their written pieces for peer review.
Encourage students to provide constructive feedback using the guide.

Step 5

Discussion and Reflection

20 mins

Gather the students for a final discussion.
Discuss the challenges they faced and what they enjoyed.
Provide positive feedback and encourage further practice.

Step 6

Closure

10 mins

Summarize the key learnings from the session.
Encourage students to continue practicing their writing skills outside of class.
Thank the students for their participation.
