Creative Motivation

Explore personal motivation through art

Students will engage in creative arts activities, including drawing and painting, to explore what motivates them. The lesson will conclude with a gallery walk where students share their work. This lesson is important as it helps build self-awareness and fosters creativity, self-expression, and appreciation for peers' perspectives.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Welcome the students and briefly explain what motivation is in simple terms.
  • Discuss how different things can make us happy and motivate us to do our best.
  • Tell students that today they will use art to show what motivates them.

Step 2

Drawing Activity

10 mins

  • Hand out drawing paper and crayons to each student.
  • Instruct students to draw something that makes them feel happy and motivated.
  • Encourage them to use lots of colors and be as creative as they like.
  • Provide support and encouragement as needed.

Step 3

Painting Activity

10 mins

  • Collect the drawings and hand out watercolors and paintbrushes.
  • Ask students to paint a picture of something that motivates them or makes them happy.
  • Guide them to think about colors and shapes that represent their motivation.
  • Walk around the room to assist and encourage students.

Step 4

Gallery Walk and Sharing

5 mins

  • Arrange the students' artwork around the room.
  • Invite students to walk around and look at each other's work.
  • Provide each student with a Gallery Walk Feedback Sheet to write or draw something they like about a peer's artwork.
  • Conclude with a brief discussion about the different things that motivate us and how everyone’s artwork is unique.
