Flash Card Race
10 minutes
- Divide class into pairs and give each pair a stack of Counting Cards.
- Students take turns flipping a card and counting the objects shown.
- First partner to correctly count all cards wins the round.
- Differentiation: Provide smaller stacks of 3–5 cards for students needing extra support.
Step 3
Treasure Hunt Adventure
10 minutes
- Send students to find hidden Treasure Hunt Cards around the room.

Warm-Up: Counting Song

Display the lyrics on the board. Sing the song together twice. Point to each number as you sing. Encourage clapping or gentle marching to keep energy high.

Divide class into pairs. Hand out counting cards face-down. Remind students: flip, count out loud, then pass to partner. Offer smaller stacks (3–5 cards) to learners who need extra support.

Objective: Students will locate hidden Treasure Hunt Cards and accurately count the objects on each, reinforcing numbers 1–10.
Materials:

- Clipboards or short writing boards
- Recording Sheet and pencils
Procedure
- Explain the Hunt
- Review counting expectations and whisper voices.
- Show a sample Treasure Hunt Card and demonstrate counting.
- Distribute Materials
- Give each student a clipboard with a simple recording sheet (e.g., a numbered list 1–10 or picture icons).
- Hidden Station Search
- Students spread out to four classroom stations (e.g., bookshelf, rug corner, art table, window seat) to find one card at each station.
- At each station, they count the items on the card and write the number beside the station name or card image on their sheet.
- Optional Partner Work
- Pair strong counters with peers who need support. Partners count together and record one answer.
- Return & Share
- After collecting counts from all stations, students reconvene on the rug.

Sing twice, encouraging movement or claps.
Teacher: “Fantastic job! Now let’s count as a group from one to ten. I’ll start: one, two, three... …ten!

Teacher: “Wonderful! You’re all warmed up and ready. Let’s move to our first game.”
Flash Card Race (10 minutes)
Teacher: “Now we will play Flash Card Race! Please find your counting partner and sit at a table. Each pair gets a stack of Counting Cards.”
Teacher: “Partner A, flip over the top card, count the objects out loud, and say the number to your partner. Then Partner B takes a turn. Keep taking turns until you’ve counted all your cards!”
Teacher: “Remember to use gentle voices and help each other. If you need help, put your finger on your card and I will come over to support you.”
Teacher: “Are you ready? Go!”
Circulate, praise correct counts: “Nice counting, Mia! You counted seven birds correctly.”

Teacher: “When I say ‘Go,’ walk quietly to your first station, find the card, count the items, and write the number on your recording sheet. Then move to the next station until you visit all four.”
Teacher: “If you finish early, you may draw the objects you counted or write the number word beside your answer—for example, ‘three.’”
Teacher: “Remember, whisper voices and walking feet. Ready? Go!”
Circulate: “Excellent whisper voices! You counted five stars correctly.”
