Meet the school counselor

In this engaging lesson, students will get to know their school counselor through a fun and interactive Bingo game. This activity helps students understand the counselor's role and feel comfortable approaching them for support. It also encourages listening skills and provides a platform for questions and discussions.

Step 1

Warm-Up: Two Truths and a Lie

5 mins

  • The counselor shares two true statements and one false statement about their role.
  • Students guess which statement is the lie.
  • This activity encourages students to think about the various aspects of the counselor's role.

Step 2

Introduction

5 mins

  • The teacher introduces the school counselor to the class.
  • Briefly explain the importance of the counselor's role and how they can help students.

Step 3

Counselor Bingo Game

20 mins

  • Distribute Bingo cards and markers/chips to each student.
  • The counselor reads out statements or facts from their role (prepared beforehand).
  • Students mark their Bingo cards if they have the corresponding fact.
  • The first student to get five in a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) shouts "Bingo!" and wins a small prize.
  • Continue the game to allow more students to win.

Step 4

Debrief and Q&A

5 mins

  • Discuss the facts mentioned during the Bingo game to reinforce the counselor's role.
  • Allow students to ask any questions they have about the school counselor.
