To introduce the School Counselor

In this lesson plan, students will get to know their School Counselor through an engaging bingo game. This will help them understand who their School Counselor is, what they do, and how they can help. The game format makes it fun and interactive, which is ideal for keeping 2nd graders' attention.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Greet the students warmly.
  • Introduce yourself as their School Counselor.
  • Briefly explain that today, they will play a game to learn more about you and your job!

Step 2

Game Explanation

5 mins

  • Distribute the bingo cards and markers/stickers to each student.
  • Explain the rules of the game: You will share facts about yourself, some fun and some about your job. If they have that fact on their bingo card, they can mark it.
  • The first student to get five in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) will call out 'Bingo!'

Step 3

Playing Bingo

15 mins

  • Begin calling out the facts about yourself one at a time.
  • Pause occasionally to answer any questions or expand on interesting points.
  • Continue until a student calls out 'Bingo!'
  • Verify the bingo and possibly continue playing if time allows.

Step 4

Q&A and Conclusion

5 mins

  • After the game, gather the students and ask if they have any questions about your role as a School Counselor.
  • Use the pre-prepared discussion guide to ensure key points are covered.
  • Thank the students for playing and express your excitement about being their School Counselor.
