Coping Skills

In this lesson, students will learn about coping skills by creating a 'Coping Skills Garden'. This hands-on activity will help students identify and practice strategies to manage their emotions effectively. Step 1

Introduction

  • Begin by asking students if they know what coping skills are.
  • Explain that coping skills are tools we use to help us feel better when we're upset or stressed.
  • Share a simple example, like taking deep breaths when feeling angry.

Step 2

Activity Setup

2 mins

  • Distribute construction paper, markers, scissors, and glue to each student.
  • Explain that they will be creating a 'Coping Skills Garden' to visualize their coping strategies.

Step 3

Create Coping Skills Garden

10 mins

  • Instruct students to cut out flower shapes from construction paper.
  • Have them write a different coping skill on each flower.
  • Decorate the flowers with markers and stickers.
  • Arrange the flowers on a large sheet of paper to create a garden.
  • Encourage students to think of additional coping skills they use and add them to their garden.
