  • After timer ends, ask pairs to admire each other’s work and give each other a high five

Step 1

Warm-Up & Song Review / Repaso de Canción

  • Gather students on the rug in a circle / Reúne a los estudiantes en un círculo en la alfombra
  • Display Listening Song Lyrics in English and Spanish
  • Teach and echo each line to review the listening chant / Enseña y repite cada línea para repasar la canción de escuchar
  • Use clapping or gentle percussion to keep rhythm / Usa palmadas o percusión suave para el ritmo
  • Purpose: activate prior knowledge of cooperation songs and focus on listening skills / Propósito: activar conocimiento previo y enfocar en habilidades de escucha

  • Show Listening Poster Session 3
  • Ask: “What do you see?” / “¿Qué ves?”
  • Define listening and following directions: “Paying attention and doing what is asked” / “Prestar atención y hacer lo que se pide”
  • Elicit examples in English and Spanish: “Listening to a friend” / “Escuchar a un amigo”
  • Record student ideas on chart paper in two columns (English/Spanish)

Step 3

Story & Discussion / Historia y Discusión

  • Show one card at a time from Listening Story Cards
  • Read captions in English and Spanish, pausing for comprehension
  • Ask: “Why is listening important here?” / “¿Por qué es importante escuchar aquí?”
  • Encourage turn-and-talk using sentence starters: “I listened when…” / “Escuché cuando…”
  • Invite 2–3 pairs to share their examples with the class

Step 4

Cooperative Obstacle Course / Circuito Cooperativo

8 minutes

  • Divide students into small groups (3–4 per group)
  • Explain the course: follow teacher directions to move through cones, hoops, and soft obstacles
  • Demonstrate one round: teacher gives a simple direction, students listen and follow
  • Set the visual timer for 3 minutes and begin the obstacle course
  • Circulate, reminding students to use listening phrases: “I’m listening” / “Estoy escuchando” and help partners follow directions
  • After time’s up, have groups cheer and give high fives

Step 5

Reflection & Badge Award / Reflexión y Entrega de Insignias

4 minutes

  • Reconvene on the rug / Reúne a todos en la alfombra
  • Ask: “How did listening help you complete the course?” / “¿Cómo te ayudó escuchar a completar el circuito?”
  • Record a few responses on chart paper in both languages
  • Hand out a “Listening Crew” badge from Listening Badge Template
  • Encourage students to wear their badge and practice listening all day / Anima a los estudiantes a usar su insignia y practicar la escucha todo el día
