Script

Conflict to Confidence: Session-by-Session Teacher Script

Below is a consistent script template for all 40 individual sessions. Each session follows the same flow: Greeting → Objective → Review (if applicable) → Introduction of Topic → Guided Activity or Discussion → Reflection → Preview & Closing.

Use this script word-for-word. Adjust student name and pace as needed.

Session 1: Introduction & Emotion Identification

Teacher: “Hi [Student Name], welcome to our first Conflict to Confidence session! I’m excited to work with you on understanding social conflicts and building your confidence.”

Teacher: “Today’s objective is to learn how to recognize and name emotions we feel during conflicts. Spotting feelings is the first step in handling them.”

Teacher: “First, let’s look at some key emotions on our slides: anger, sadness, frustration, embarrassment, and disappointment.”
Teacher: (Advance to slide showing each emotion with a simple icon.)

Teacher: “Can you tell me about a conflict you’ve had recently and which one of these emotions you felt?”

Student: [Responds]

Teacher: “Great. In your notebook, please write down that situation and the emotion you named.”

Teacher: “Thank you. Notice how naming it helps us step back from the feeling. That’s powerful!”

Teacher: “Next session, we’ll explore how our body and mind respond in these moments. See you then!”

Session 2: Self-Awareness

Teacher: “Hi [Student Name], welcome back! Last time we named our emotions in conflict. Today’s objective is to deepen your awareness of how your body and thoughts react in those moments.”

Teacher: “Think about that same conflict you listed last session. How did your body feel—heart pounding, clenched jaw, sweaty palms?”

Student: [Responds]

Teacher: “Excellent. Now, let’s talk about your thoughts: Were you thinking ‘I can’t believe they did that’ or ‘I’m going to lose it’?”

Student: [Responds]

Teacher: “In your notebook, write down one physical reaction and one thought you had.”

Teacher: “Understanding these signs helps us catch ourselves earlier. Next time, we’ll identify what triggers those signs.”

Session 3: Identifying Triggers

Teacher: “Welcome! Today we’ll pinpoint common triggers that spark conflicts. This helps us avoid or prepare for them.”

Teacher: “Here are sample scenarios—being teased, having plans change, feeling ignored.”

Teacher: “Which of these or other situations tend to push your buttons?”

Student: [Responds]

Teacher: “On this Problem-Solving Worksheet, list three triggers you experience.”

Teacher: “Great job. Knowing our triggers is like spotting warning signs on a hike. Next session: we’ll practice active listening.”

Session 4: Active Listening

Teacher: “Hi again! Active listening is a top tool for calming conflicts. Our objective: practice listening to understand, not just to reply.”

Teacher: “I’ll model a conversation. Notice how I paraphrase and ask questions.” (Role-play 30 seconds.)

Teacher: “Now, I’ll play Person A, and you’ll practice reflective listening as Person B.”

Student & Teacher: [Role-play]

Teacher: “In your notebook, write one sentence you said that showed you were really listening.”

Teacher: “You did great with reflective listening! Next time: we’ll learn how to use ‘I-statements.’”

Session 5: I-Statements

Teacher: “Welcome back! ‘I-statements’ help us express our needs without blaming. Objective: craft clear I-statements.”

Teacher: “The format is: I feel ______ when ______ because I need ______. For example: ‘I feel upset when you interrupt me because I need to finish my thought.’”

Teacher: “On your worksheet, write three I-statements about past conflicts.”

Teacher: “Fantastic work. Notice how this keeps the other person from feeling attacked. Next session: we’ll practice perspective-taking.”

Sessions 6–40: Consistent Script Template (Customize Topic)

For Sessions 6 through 40, use the same script flow, replacing [Session Topic] and specific prompts:

  1. Greeting
Teacher: “Hi [Student Name], welcome to session [#]! Today’s objective is to [Session Objective].”
  2. Review (briefly revisit last session)
Teacher: “Last time, we learned about [Last Session Focus]. How did you use that skill this week?”
  3. Introduce Topic
Teacher: “Today we’ll focus on [Session Topic]. Here’s why it matters…”
    (Advance to relevant slide.)
  4. Discussion Prompt
Teacher: “Think of a time when [Prompt related to topic]. What happened, and how did it feel?”
  5. Guided Activity or Role-Play
Teacher: “Let’s try an activity: [Describe activity or role-play]. I’ll model first.”
(Conduct modeling and then guide student.)
  6. Student Practice
Teacher: “Your turn. I’ll observe and give feedback.”
(Allow student time to practice, using provided materials.)
  7. Reflection
    Teacher: “In your journal/worksheet, write: ‘Today I learned…’ and ‘Next time I will…’. ”

  8. Preview & Closing
Teacher: “Excellent progress. Next session, we’ll explore [Next Session Topic]. Keep practicing today’s skill whenever you notice…”

Use this template for each remaining session, plugging in the session name, objective, discussion prompt, and activity from the Individual Conflict to Confidence Lesson Plan. This ensures consistency in language, pacing, and structure across all 40 sessions. Good luck leading your students from conflict to confidence!
