Community Care Cards

Encourage civic engagement

In this lesson, students will design cards for local community members such as first responders or elderly neighbors. Step 1

Introduction to Community

5 mins

  • Begin with a brief discussion on what a community is and who makes up a community.
  • Ask students to share examples of people in their community who help others (e.g., firefighters, police officers, elderly neighbors).
  • Explain the importance of showing appreciation and kindness to these community members.

Step 2

Card Design Activity

20 mins

  • Distribute the 'Card Design Guide' worksheet to each student.
  • Provide students with blank cards or paper and art supplies.
  • Instruct students to think about a message of kindness or gratitude they would like to share.
  • Encourage creativity in decorating the cards with drawings, stickers, or other decorative items.
  • Walk around to offer support and ideas as needed.

Reflection and Sharing

  • Gather students in a circle to share their cards and the messages they wrote.
