Creating Clay Gifts

This week-long lesson plan engages K-3 students in creating clay gifts using air dry clay. Through a combination of Game-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, and Active Learning strategies, students will explore creativity, develop fine motor skills, and learn about the process of creating and gifting handmade items. Step 1

Introduction to Clay

  • Introduce students to air dry clay and its properties.
  • Discuss the concept of creating gifts and why handmade gifts are special.
  • Show examples of simple clay creations to inspire students.

Step 2

Brainstorming Session

30 mins

  • Facilitate a brainstorming session where students think about what gifts they want to create.
  • Encourage students to sketch their ideas on paper.
  • Discuss the importance of planning before creating.

Clay Crafting Day 1

1 hour

  • Provide each student with a portion of air dry clay.
  • Guide students in shaping their clay based on their sketches.
