In this lesson, students will learn about citizenship by listening to a story, discussing the characters' actions, drawing their favorite part of the story that illustrates good citizenship, and making 'Citizenship Crowns.' This lesson helps students understand the importance of good citizenship and how their actions can positively impact their community.

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Greet students and explain that today they will learn about being a good citizen.
  • Introduce the storybook and briefly discuss the importance of being a good citizen.

Step 2

Story Reading

10 minutes

  • Read the storybook aloud to the class.
  • Pause occasionally to ask questions and engage students in the story.

Step 3

Discussion

5 minutes

  • Lead a discussion about the story, focusing on the actions of the characters that demonstrate good citizenship.
  • Use prepared questions to guide the discussion.

Step 4

Drawing Activity

7 minutes

  • Provide students with drawing paper and crayons or markers.
  • Ask students to draw their favorite part of the story that shows good citizenship.
  • Encourage students to share and explain their drawings with the class.

Step 5

Craft Activity: Citizenship Crowns

15 minutes

  • Provide each student with a strip of construction paper that will fit around their head as a crown.
  • Have students decorate their crowns with drawings or words that represent good citizenship.
  • Assist students in cutting and gluing or taping their crowns to fit around their heads.
  • Encourage students to wear their 'Citizenship Crowns' proudly.
