Choose Your Path Lesson Plan

Students will learn to access, navigate, and complete the Would You Rather assessment in Schoolinks, enabling them to discover personal interests and preferences for career and academic planning.

Completing the Would You Rather assessment helps students reflect on their interests, guiding informed decisions about future classes and career paths.

  • Test access to the Would You Rather assessment in your own Schoolinks account

Getting Started with the Would You Rather Assessment in Schoolinks

A step-by-step guide for 10th graders

Welcome everyone! Today we’ll explore how to take the “Would You Rather” assessment in Schoolinks. This tool will help you learn about your interests and guide future course and career planning.

Lesson Objectives

• Learn to log in to Schoolinks
• Navigate to the Assessments section
• Launch and complete the first part of the Would You Rather assessment
• Reflect on your interests to inform course and career planning

Read the lesson objective aloud. Emphasize why knowing your preferences matters for academic and career decisions.

Step 1: Accessing Schoolinks

  1. Open your device’s browser and go to schoolinks.com
  2. Enter your username and password
  3. Click “Log In”

Demonstrate each step on the projector. Pause to check that all students are logging in successfully.

Step 2: Finding Assessments

  1. Once logged in, locate the sidebar menu
  2. Click on “Assessments”
  3. Find “Would You Rather” in the list of available assessments

Show live navigation or screenshots. Highlight the “Assessments” tab on the sidebar.

Step 3: Launching the Assessment

• Click “Start” next to “Would You Rather”
• You will see either/or questions (e.g., "Would you rather work in a lab or outdoors?")
• Select the option that best matches your preference

Explain the question format: two options per question. Use the script to read questions aloud as examples.

Your Turn: Practice

• Log in on your device and navigate to the assessment
• Complete the first five questions independently
• I will circulate to help with any login or navigation issues

Invite two volunteers to share what they see. Then instruct the rest to begin.

Class Discussion

Reflect on your experience:
• Which questions resonated most with you?
• What surprised you about your choices?

Choose Your Path – Teacher Script

Introduction (5 minutes)

  1. Greet & Set Purpose
    “Good morning, everyone! Today we’re going to learn how to take the Would You Rather assessment in Schoolinks. This assessment helps you discover your interests and preferences, so you can make informed choices about classes and career paths.”
  2. Engage & Connect
    “Before we begin, I want to hear from you: What tools or activities have you used before to explore careers?”
    • Pause for student responses (2–3 volunteers).
    • Follow‐up: “Great ideas! Some of you mentioned career fairs, personality quizzes, or talking with adults in different jobs.”
  3. Introduce the Assessment
    “The Would You Rather assessment is a quick, fun way to see where your interests lie. You’ll choose between two options—like working outdoors vs. in a lab—and those choices help build your profile.”
  4. Transition to Slides
    “Let’s look at slides 1 and 2 in the Choose Your Path Slide Deck to see our objectives for today.”

  1. Share Your Screen
    “I’m sharing my screen now so you can see exactly how to log in and navigate.”
  2. Step 1: Accessing Schoolinks
    • “Open your browser and go to schoolinks.com.” (Slide 3)
    • “Enter your username and password, then click Log In.”
    • Check for understanding: “Is everyone logged in?”
  3. Step 2: Finding Assessments
    • “Once you’re on the homepage, look at the sidebar on the left and click Assessments.” (Slide 4)
    • “Find Would You Rather in the list.”
  4. Step 3: Launching the Assessment
    • “Click Start next to Would You Rather.” (Slide 5)
    • “You’ll see a series of two‐option questions. For example:”
      • “Would you rather work in a lab or work outdoors?”

    • Read aloud the first two items and model selecting an option.

Cool Down Activity (5 minutes)

  1. Distribute & Explain
    “I’m handing out the cool-down sheet now.” Introduce Choose Your Path Cool Down Activity.
  2. Writing Prompt
    • “Write one area you’d like to explore further based on your assessment results.”
    • “Then list one question you still have about careers.”

Choose Your Path Discussion Prompts

Purpose

This discussion helps students reflect on their initial experience with the Would You Rather assessment. By sharing insights, learners connect personal preferences to future course and career planning.

Setup & Norms (10 minutes)

  • Arrange students in a semicircle or on a carpet for whole-group sharing.
  • Remind everyone of respectful listening: one speaker at a time, positive feedback, and open-mindedness.
  • Use Think–Pair–Share: individual reflection, partner discussion, then whole-class share.

Reflection Prompts

  1. Resonating Questions
    Which Would You Rather questions stood out to you the most, and why?


  2. Surprises
    Did any choice surprise you? What did it reveal about your interests or strengths?


  3. Connecting to Courses
    How could your preferences guide the classes you choose next year? Give a specific example.


  4. Real-World Applications
    Imagine a job or project that matches one of your top preferences—what might that look like?


Follow-Up Questions

  • Call on volunteers or use random selection to ensure all voices are heard.
  • Highlight connections between student responses and real courses at your school.
