Slide Deck

Character Champions

Exploring Honesty, Patriotism, Loyalty, and Perseverance

Welcome students and introduce today’s lesson. Display the title slide. Explain that we’ll become “Character Champions” by exploring four important traits: honesty, patriotism, loyalty, and perseverance.

Objectives & Key Traits

Objectives:
• Define and identify honesty, patriotism, loyalty, and perseverance
• Analyze real-life scenarios showcasing each trait
• Reflect on ways to demonstrate them in our lives

Key Traits:
• Honesty: Telling the truth and being trustworthy
• Patriotism: Showing love and respect for our country
• Loyalty: Standing by others and keeping commitments
• Perseverance: Persisting through challenges

Read through the objectives with the class. Ask if anyone can give an example of each trait in everyday life. Provide quick, student-generated examples to reinforce definitions.

Scenario Stations

  1. Divide into 4 groups
  2. Each group takes a set of Character Traits Scenario Cards
  3. Read each card and identify which trait it represents
  4. Discuss why the scenario fits that trait

Explain how the scenario stations work. Divide students into four groups. Hand out the Character Traits Scenario Cards. Emphasize they should read, identify the trait, and discuss why it fits.

Group Task

• Group 1: Honesty
• Group 2: Patriotism
• Group 3: Loyalty
• Group 4: Perseverance

On your chart paper, record:

  • Examples from the scenarios
  • Questions or observations about the trait

Assign each group one trait and give chart paper and markers. Instruct them to record key points, examples, or questions under their trait heading.

Group Share-Out

• Each group shares one scenario and explains why it represents their trait
• Classmates ask questions or add examples
• Discuss how these traits show up in our daily lives

Bring everyone back together. Invite each group to share one scenario and their reasoning. Encourage classmates to ask questions or add insights. Highlight connections to real life.

Individual Reflection

  1. Take your Character Champions Reflection Journal
  2. Choose one trait to strengthen
  3. Write about:
    • Why it’s important
    • A time you’ve shown it (or wish you had)
    • One action you’ll take this week to practice it

Distribute the Character Champions Reflection Journal. Explain the writing prompts and give students time to complete their reflections. Collect journals or have students keep them for tracking growth.

Activity

Character Traits Scenario Cards

Use these scenario cards in your group discussions. Read each scenario, decide which trait it represents (Honesty, Patriotism, Loyalty, or Perseverance), and be prepared to explain your reasoning.

Scenario Cards:

  1. You find a wallet on the playground with money inside. You decide to take it straight to the office so the owner can get it back.

  1. During the school assembly, you stand quietly with your hand over your heart when the national anthem plays.

  1. Your friend is being teased by a group at lunch. Even though you might get teased too, you stand up and tell them to stop.

  1. You practice your piano piece every day, even when you hit wrong notes, until you can play it perfectly at the recital.

  1. You accidentally break your sibling’s favorite toy. Instead of hiding it, you admit what happened and offer to help fix it or replace it.

  1. You and your classmates talk about how you can help your school choose a new mascot. You share your ideas and vote, showing respect for the process.

  1. Your pet is scared of thunderstorms. You stay by its side, comforting it with gentle words and a calm presence until it feels safe.

  1. You have a big science project due. Even though it’s challenging, you work on a little each evening until it’s complete and high quality.
